walking on holy ground

​Mount Fuji, one of Japan's most sacred symbols, looks more like Disneyland these days. Thousands of tourists are creating human traffic jams, foothills are littered with garbage, and ill-equipped hikers are attempting the ascent. State official Yasuyoshi Okada said the overuse must be reined in to preserve the sacredness of the mountain.
