With a deep mindful breath, we announce the passing of our beloved teacher, Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, on January 22, at the age of 95. We invite our global spiritual family to take a few moments to be still, come back to mindful breathing, as we together hold Thay in our hearts in peace and loving gratitude for all he has offered the world. - Plum Village Community of Engaged Buddhism
Thich Nhat Hanh was a Vietnamese Buddhist monk, peace activist, author, and leading voice in opposition to the Vietnam War. He was born in central Vietnam in 1926 and entered Tu Hieu Temple, in Hue city, as a novice monk at the age of 16. He is recognized as the main inspiration for engaged Buddhism.
“To live in the present moment is a miracle. The miracle is not to walk on water. The miracle is to walk on the green earth in the present moment, to appreciate the peace and beauty that are available now. We are here to awaken from the illusion of our separateness.” – Thich Nhat Hanh
Affirmative prayer: Infinite Presence, thank you for voices of peace, compassion, and enlightenment. Thank you for the presence of Thich Nhat Hanh, for his touch on our lives and on the Earth. Thank you, God, forever. Amen.
