Love, Forgiveness, Action

A recent poll shows that a majority of Americans have felt the heartache of gun violence in one way or another. More than 100 people die each day by being shot. The findings illustrate how the epidemic pervades the daily lives of millions in the U.S. We are in such pain.
A few years ago, a man burst into an Amish schoolhouse and shot 11 schoolgirls, then turned the gun on himself. The Amish were, at first, unsure of what to do. But after gathering themselves up, they knew exactly what to do. They forgave. They went to the family of the gunman, hugged them, forgave, and set up a charitable fund for the family. They loved, and they forgave.
Affirmative prayer: Infinite Presence, today I grieve for the darkness cast over those who have lost someone to violence. I hold naught against those who bring destruction. With a gentle heart, forgiveness, and with confidence in the goodness of our better angels, I see a new day. I turn my pain into action: affirming the truth and voting for representatives who will make a difference. I give thanks for the healing and good works already in play in our country, in the lives of us all. Thank you, God, forever. Amen.
