Making Us Safer

Mass shootings are causing great loss and hurting our collective soul. Every breaking-news alert floods the nation with grief, fear, and anger. The U.S. has faced more than 200 mass shootings so far this year. And mass shootings, defined as shootings where at least four people died, don’t even make up the majority of gun violence in America. While Congress has been unable to make meaningful gun legislation, a few states are trying to help, passing local gun laws.

Affirmative prayer: There is only One Life. We are – all of us – connected in Spirt. It is this Divine union that allows a thought, a prayer, a recognition to be made known in the hearts of our fellow beings. So I pray, affirming that those who are grieving are comforted by the love of God, and by our embrace. I affirm that those who would do harm are also touched by this love, that a healing and an awakening brings them to wholeness. And I pray for the leaders of government and communities, that they have the empathy, selflessness, and courage to take action to make us safer. Thank you, God, forever. Amen.
