Dave Bishop retired from his telecommunications career last year, but he wasn’t done working. He became the custodian at the George Weatherbee Middle School in Hampden, Maine. And, there, his “work” also includes teaching kids the game of chess. Watching the kids work hard at the game has brought him great joy. His players, in fact, just won the Maine Scholastic Chess Championship.
“In keeping yourself with labor, you are in truth loving life. When you work you are a flute through whose heart the whispering of the hours turns to music. It is to sow seeds with tenderness and reap the harvest with joy. Work is love made visible.” – Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet
Affirmative prayer: Infinite Presence, I affirm today that, indeed, “work is love made visible.” I give thanks for every opportunity to toil, to stretch, to bring the satisfaction of a job well done home to my soul. Thank you, God, forever. Amen.
