Sustained Through the Pain

When word got out that B Hayes, an 18-year-old student at Nashville Christian School, was banned from going to their prom because they wore a suit and not a dress, the local community stepped up to organize another prom. "I greatly appreciate the support from my community,” Hayes said, “and I want others who have experienced similar situations to know that they are not alone. There are people in this world who stand with you.”
“People need to know that their life has significance, that  they are not  alone; that  when they face life’s difficulties, they are surrounded by a community of grace and they do not have to figure out for themselves how to cope with self-doubts and despair. People need to know the  hope  that  sustains  them  even  through painful periods; the  sense  of  belonging  that  blesses  them  and lifts  them  up.” - Robert Schnase, Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations
Affirmative prayer: In moments when I feel alone, I remember that there is a Divine power and presence with me, that I am immersed in the love of God and the love of my sisters and brothers. I lean into the connection and kindness of the human spirit and am made safe and whole again, and again. Thank you, God, forever. Amen.
