The Evidence of love

Today’s celebration of romance is linked to a third-century bishop, St. Valentine, but little is known about him. One story claims he was a temple priest who was beheaded by the Roman emperor Claudius for being too strident in his Christian practices. He also allegedly wrote the emperor’s daughter a letter, signing it, “from your Valentine,” which may have been his real downfall. He eventually became known as the patron saint of lovers, epileptics, and beekeepers.
