A metaphor…
A stretch of prime Southern California beachfront was returned to the descendants of its Black owners Tuesday, nearly a century after the parcel was taken by the city of Manhattan Beach. The land belonged to Charles and Willa Bruce, but the city took the property through eminent domain in 1924. Holly Mitchell of the LA County Board of Supervisors said, "We aren't giving property to anyone today, we are returning it."
