peace, be still

“I suddenly saw the secret beauty of their hearts, the core of their reality, the person who each one is in the eyes of the Divine. If only we could see each other that way all the time. There would be no more war, no more cruelty, no more greed. I suppose the big problem would be that we would fall down and worship each other.” – Thomas Merton
“Every day we could think about aggression in the world and ask ourselves, ‘Am I going to add to the aggression?’ At the moment when things get edgy, we can just ask ourselves, ‘Am I going to practice peace, or am I going to war?’” – Pema Chodron
Affirmative prayer: Today, I reside in the God qualities of peace and generosity, releasing feelings of ill will that I’ve held against another. May this be the way of the world. Breathe in, “Peace.” Hold it for a moment, embracing the world. Then breathe out, “Be still.” May the leaders of nations awaken to Divine insight. Peace, be still. Thank you, God, forever. Amen.
