Fundamental Truth

The bookkeeper of a small firm began every day the same way. He would unlock his desk, study something in an upper drawer, gaze out the window for a minute, then begin working. After the bookkeeper died, his fellow employees found a single piece of paper in the drawer with the words: “debit on the left; credit on the right.”
