Pioneering American Women

The US Mint announced the list of five pioneering American women who will appear on the first run of the "American Women Quarters Program." Astronaut Sally Ride, poet Maya Angelou, Asian American actress Anna May Wong, Cherokee Nation leader Wilma Mankiller, and suffragette Nina Otero-Warren will be featured on the quarters. "These coins will remind us of what can be accomplished with vision and determination," said Alison Doone of the US Mint.
"The greatest good we can conceive should be affirmed as a part of our everyday experience. We venture forth into a life of action with the will to do, the determination to be, and the joy in becoming.” – Ernest Holmes, Can We Talk to God?
