NASA’s two new missions to Venus will shed light on how the planet became inhospitable, despite the fact that it shares many characteristics with Earth. Venus likely maintained stable temperatures and hosted liquid water for billions of years before something happened to turn it into a planet with temperatures exceeding 800 degrees Fahrenheit. The missions, which will launch in 2028, will tell us about the Venusian atmosphere and the planet’s surface all the way down to its very core.

When Daverius Peters arrived at his high school’s graduation commencement, he was told he couldn’t be in the ceremony because he violated the dress code. He was wearing athletic shoes instead of dress shoes. A shepherd, Zhu Keming, tending his flock in China’s Gansu province, saved the lives of six runners competing in a 100-kilometer cross-country race.
